The Oppsal branch is located in the Østensjø district, centrally placed in the Oppsal shopping centre. The area is accessible by Mortensrud underground line 3, which has a stop only a short distance from the library. The Østensjø district borders the Østmarka forest with its walking paths, lakes and illuminated ski trails, and offers rich opportunities for outdoor activies. The district’s architecture is a mixture of old and new.
The Oppsal branch has cooperated with local resources for many years, and has therefore developed many services for the district’s inhabitants.
The Østensjø Senior Academy provides services to citizens over the age of 60 via the library, including monthly lectures and visits to various cultural institutions and study circles.
Kinoteket, the library´s digital cinema, provides access to the Norwegian Film Institute´s archives.
The Oppsal branch publishes an audio newspaper in cooperation with the volunteer centers in Bøler and Oppsal. The newspaper is available free of charge, and includes general information from the district as well as other useful, local information.
The branch has chosen books about the city and the district´s history as one of its main focus areas. The library has collected photographic material of local-historical interest in cooperation with the Friends of Østensjø and the Østensjø Historical Society. The database has several hundred photos, all of which are available at
