The Children and Youth Department

The Children and Youth Department is the Oslo Public Library's department specialising in literature and other media for children and youth. Here you will find the library's largest collection of children's books, encompassing all genres, spanning several age groups in over 40 languages. For over a hundred years, children of the city have found their reading material here, so the department's stacks include books from their great- grandparents' childhood. Contemporary books are placed on the shelves, accessible for patrons.

The department's goal is to present a wide variety of all media to children and youth. In addition to books, the collection includes audio books on CD and cassette, videos and DVD, children's music on CD and CD-ROM.

Children and youth up to the age of 18 have access to Internet in the departement.

The staff are well-acquainted with the collection and stay abreast of recent publications and important events in media developments concerning children. Providing book tips and guidance through the media jungle is among the department's most important tasks.

Our collection also includes material for adults about children's literature, culture, and use of media.

Saturdays we offer children's theatre, puppet shows, musical performances, story hours, and movies.
