The Adult Department
The Adult Department is the largest department in the main library building. It is located on the second floor at Hammersborg Torg in the center of the city of Oslo. The library’s nearest neighbors are the government buildings, and it is only 300 meters from Karl Johans gate and Stortinget.
In our department you will find books in Norwegian and in various foreign languages. There are books on all subjects, both fiction and non-fiction, audio books, graphic novels/comic books, language courses, and DVDs – all of which are available for loan. We also have extensive genealogical resources and collections of local-historical interest, and a reference collection that includes encyclopedias and other reference works and handbooks. Some of the collections is in storage in nearby stacks; librarians will find these books for you while you wait. The librarians are also available for reference questions.
You can register and receive a library card if you have a valid ID, and read and sign our lending regulations. The use of the library's collections is free. It is also possible to make copies; a copy-card with 10 copies costs 25 kroner.
The library has work stations with Internet access, as well as a wireless network and electrical outlets for laptops. Internet access is free, but prints costs 2 kroner per page.
We also have Norwegian and foreign newspapers, and periodicals.
